Power storage is a major step towards energy independence, solar batteries let you store up power for when you really need it. This helps to remove your reliance on the grid, and reduces the money you pay to your energy provider.
Sofar Solar mission is to enable customers to use green and inexpensive power when they actually need it, whilst also reducing peak grid electricity demand and carbon emissions. Sofar Solar is a British product, conceived, designed and manufactured in Britain. It was created to allow households with solar panels to store the excess electricity they generated during the day and allow them to use it when they actually needed it. By shifting some of this self-generated electricity to a time where you can use it, the Sofar Solar device allows you to use more of the green power you generate. This reduces the amount of additional electricity you need to buy from your utility company. Sofar Solar can also reduce your carbon footprint and was assessed by the National Physical Laboratory in 2014. They confirmed that the unit worked and estimated that each unit reduced CO2 emissions by 0.3 tonnes CO2 annually. Feed-in-tariff payments and „deemed‟ export payments are unaffected by the Sofar Solar device.
How it works
The power generated by solar panels varies not only by season but also during the day as weather patterns change. This makes it very difficult to use all of the “free” power you generate – particularly if you‟re regularly away from the house during daylight hours. The excess power that you generate – which isn‟t being used in your home – is normally fed to the grid. The Sofar Solar device uses some of this excess power to efficiently charge its integrated batteries. Towards the end of the day when your solar panels generate less power and your household demand starts to rise, the Sofar Solar device discharges to meet some or all of your electricity demand. The device continues to supply some or all of your electricity needs until it‟s fully discharged. Next morning the cycle starts again – up to 365 days a year.
Installation
Sofar Solar currently works with solar installer partners and electricians to carry out the simple installation process in about an hour.
